Kickboxing

Novice Kickboxing

Three 1.5 minute rounds with an overtime 4th round if the bout is ruled a draw by the judges. Athlete must wear shin pads and boxing gloves (Provided by AXFC). Athletes must wear groin protection and mouthpiece (Female athletes are exempt from groin protection). Athletes may wrap their hands with tape and gauze (Provided by AXFC) according to the rules explained at the pre-fight rules meeting.

Punches are allowed to the body and head of opponent, but not to back of opponent’s head or the backside of the opponent’s body. Spinning back fists are allowed as long as the striking surface is with the knuckles.

All kicks are allowed to the opponent’s leg, body and head. Kicks are not allowed to the front of the opponent’s knee or back of the opponent’s spine.

An athlete may win by KO, TKO, Doctor’s Stoppage, Retirement of Opponent or Judge’s Decision.

*If both athletes and their coaches agree to a time extension, Novice Kickboxing round time may be extended to 2 minutes.

**There are no Novice Kickboxing titles.

A Class Kickboxing

Athletes must wear groin protection and mouthpiece (Female athletes are exempt from groin protection). Athletes may wrap their hands with tape and gauze (Provided by AXFC) according to the rules explained at the pre-fight rules meeting.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai

Three 3 minute rounds with an overtime 4th round if the bout is ruled a draw by the judges. Athlete must wear NO shin pads and use boxing gloves (Provided by AXFC). Athletes must wear groin protection and mouthpiece (Female athletes are exempt from groin protection). Athletes may wrap their hands with tape and gauze (Provided by AXFC) according to the rules explained at the pre-fight rules meeting.

Punches are allowed to the body and head of opponent, but not to back of opponent’s head or the backside of the opponent’s body. Spinning back fists are allowed as long as the striking surface is with the knuckles.

All kicks are allowed to the opponent’s leg, body and head. Kicks are not allowed to the front of the opponent’s knee or back of the opponent’s spine.

Knees are allowed to the legs and body of the opponent.

Clinching / Neck Wrestling is allowed as long as athlete as actively working to score. Both athletes must be facing each other. It is legal to turn or twist your opponent to the mat as long as no part of your body is used as a barrier.

Catching kicks is legal as long as an action is taken within two steps. Punching, kicking, kneeing are allowed while holding on to the opponent’s leg. Pushing the caught leg back towards your opponent to dump them to ground is allowed as long no more than two steps is used. Kicking the support leg out is legal.

Sweeps and throws are allowed. Wrestling, back locks, arm throws are NOT legal. Lifting an opponent in NOT legal. Grabbing an opponent around the waist and twisting them to the mat IS legal.

You may use your foot, knee or thigh to twist and throw your opponent to the mat as long as you move your foot, knee or thigh our of the way before your opponent land on the mat.

Purposefully landing on your opponent is not allowed.

An athlete may win by KO, TKO, Doctor’s Stoppage, Retirement of Opponent or Judge’s Decision.

*Muay Thai Championship Fights are 5 rounds, with no overtime round.

Mixed Martial arts

Non-title bouts are three, 3 minute rounds with a 4th overtime round if the bout is ruled a draw. Title bouts will be scheduled for five, 3 minute rounds, no overtime round. All athletes must wear gloves and shin pads provided by AXFC, and be licensed as an Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Participant through the Washington State Department of Licensing. Mouthpiece and groin protection are required (women are exempt from wearing groin protection). Tape and gauze may be used to wrap an athlete’s hands in accordance with the guidelines explained at the pre-fight rules meeting; tape and gauze are provided. Vaseline may be applied only to the face before the bout starts, and must be done cage-side in view of the ringside official. 

Standing Rules:

Standing rules are in place when both athletes have only their feet on the mat. Punches to the head, body, and legs of an opponent are legal. Spinning backfists and spinning hammerfists are legal. Shoulder strikes and foot stomps in clinch scenarios are legal. Kicks are allowed to the legs, body, and head, however no kicks to the front of the knee are allowed. Knees are allowed to the legs and body only, and elbows are not allowed in any circumstance. All takedowns are legal, as long as the athlete performing the takedown does not spike his/her opponent directly onto their head.  

Ground Rules:

The moment a fighter has a point of contact on the mat other than their feet, they are considered grounded and the bout has now become a ground fight. This includes a knee, elbow, or even a finger (Washington has not adopted the change to the Unified MMA rules). 

Once the bout becomes a ground fight, punching and grappling techniques are the only techniques allowed. No up kicks are allowed, and no down kicks are allowed. Knees to the body of a grounded opponent are illegal, and elbows of any kind are illegal. All submissions with the exception of outside and inside heel hooks are allowed, but reaping the knee is legal.

Athletes may win via KO, TKO, doctor stoppage, retirement of opponent, submission, or judges decision.
